The Managing Director (MD) of a Black Country firm, Mr. Ernest Jones, has been fined because of negligence on his part to control legionella at the firm’s site. Mr. Jones belongs to Rugeley, Staffordshire.

Moreover, no monitoring or test checks were being conducted.
The inspectors issued a prohibition notice at the site, along with an improvement notice to implement a management system. The shortcomings that were found made it evident that the neglect was on the part of the company’s MD, Mr. Jones.
Sarah Palfreyman, Health, Safety and Environment inspector, said that the danger was not only predictable but also controllable. The MD and the company had received quotes from two companies for water treatment, with one of them also advising about the very high level of bacteria in the towers.
