Imagine before the Internet how difficult it would be to sell a Barbie Doll from Kmart to a buyer in Russia, Singapore or Eastern Europe.

Just to reach a potential customer with your ad is almost overwhelming when you think about how you’d try to do it.

Then accept payment in that foreign currency and execute the rest of the transaction.

Fast forward now to the age of the Internet and suddenly advertising your Barbie doll to a foreign person in a foreign country who’ll be paying in foreign currency can be a mere formality.

And it’s not just restricted to Barbie Dolls. The sky is the limit.

The main online companies that make all this possible and incredibly easy and efficient are google, ebay, paypal, and yahoo. There are other players like clickbank who can also help if you’re dealing in instantly downloadable products.

Between these five are all the resources and tools you need to target and push your message further than you ever thought possible.

Internet Marketing in 2005 is all about niche marketing. Finding a not so crowded niche that you can hone your skills and interests to make money online and at home is becoming more and more popular.

What about creating a niche by targeting a foreign market?

All you need is a friend or acquaintance or someone you pay on an hourly basis who can speak the language you’re targeting.

Plus, a computer with an operating system that can read and write in the targeted language. Once you have these two criteria, you’re most of the way there.

Ebay, yahoo and google make it very easy to go global. For example within your google PPC account you can create ads in many languages targeting many keywords.

Set up and ad delivery can be done in minutes. Just think, your ad can be broadcast to the four quarters of the globe, in a number of foreign languages - in minutes.

If you’re marketing a few select products it’s easy to get things automated to the stage where you’ll be able to list items without the help of the native speaker.

Emails can be directed directly or indirectly to your native speaker for translation and the whole operation can be streamlined for maximum efficiency.

Because of email the native speaker doesn’t even have to be from your area.

Once you’ve picked your target country and product(s) you can do the usual overture keyword search term to check demand of your idea in that country.

If things work out it’s also quite easy to create a homepage in the foreign language to further enhance sales. If things don’t work out, then you’ve lost very little.

The real benefit of targeting foreign buyers is that it allows you to escape the brutal level of competition for the same products and prices in the domestic market.

If you can source a good product (good profit margin, not prone to breakage) and communicate your offer to foreign buyers then consider this niche marketing option.

The great benefit to mothers of this type of marketing is that you can try a different form of marketing that you can do quickly and at minimal cost.

There are a number of techniques that webmasters have used over the years to try an outsmart Google. Today, many of these will get you banned, or at best penalized, so that your sites don’t rank well, and consequently don’t get the traffic you need.

1. Spam technique 1 - Sneaky redirects

Have you ever clicked on a search result in Google, but the URL you end up at is not the one listed in Google’s results? = SNEAKY REDIRECT.
Similarly, if you click on a link on a website and it takes you to a URL that is not the one referenced by the link = SNEAKY REDIRECT.

Not all redirects are sneaky. Some are there for good reason and don’t try to deceive your visitors. Examples of this might include using your .htaccess file to redirect to affiliate links. This technique is widely used to hide affiliate links from visitors, or make URLs shorter and easier to remember. I doubt Google would include this as a sneaky redirect. Another safe type of redirect is a 301 redirect typically used to move a site from one domain to another.

If your redirect is not there to deceive your visitor, then it is probably OK.

2. Spam technique 2 - 100% Frame

This technique is a form of cloaking. On clicking a link in Google’s search results, the page you are taken to has the URL of the page you expect, but a frame is used to show the contents of a completely different page.

The result is that Google’s spider indexes and ranks the original page, but the page shown to visitors is a different one.

This is considered spam.

3. Spam technique 3 - Hidden Text / Hidden Links

Invisible text is easily done. Create the text or links in the same colour as the background colour. To the visitor, that text is invisible. To the search engine spiders that see only the raw HTML, they are there.

Often these can be spotted when you visit a web page by using the keyboard combination CTRL + A. This selects all text on the page, and hidden text can then be seen as they are highlighted by the browser.

Another form of hiding links is to hyperlink to a page using punctuation. e.g. linking a “.” to a webpage. Its not invisible, but it is an attempt to hide a link from the visitor.

Another form of link hiding that I have seen is to have a phrase hyperlinked to several different documents. To the visitor, the hyperlink looks like a normal link, but move your mouse cursor along the link and you will see the address in the status bar at the bottom of your browser change to reveal different URLs for different parts of the phrase.

4. Spam technique 4 - Porn on expired domains.

A technique often used by webmasters is to buy old domains with existing PR and backlinks and using that PR to get ranked well for an unrelated topic.

This relates to all niches, not just Porn.

5. Spam technique 5 - Secondary Search Results / PPC

These are pages set up purely to collect PPC revenue without providing much relevant content of their own. A range of tools for scraping search engine results are available, but they will get you into trouble. For those still arguing that these tools do work, you are in the minority.

In a “leaked report” thought to originate from Google, the report also mentions sites that have directories setup to include DMOZ listings. However, it only specifies that these should be penalised if they contain PPC advertising e.g. Adsense. Those setup without Adsense are obviously providing the visitors with a service and should be ignored (links to relevant sites in your directory is value added for your visitor).

Think about the motives for setting up a directory like this. Is it for revenue, or for visitors? If the former, Google want it marked as spam. If it is the latter, you are OK for now.

6. Spam technique 6 - Thin Affiliate Doorway pages

Google considers affiliate pages that don’t provide useful content to the visitor as spam. e.g. a page setup purely for ushering visitors to an affiliate program is considered spam, if that page does not provide the visitor with useful information or a useful service.

Pages that add value, and are useful to the visitors even if the affiliate links were removed are OK.

What this means is that you need to provide interesting, unique content on your pages. Create a page that will really interest your visitor, and then affiliate links are OK.

Again, ask yourself this question.

“If I removed all advertising from this page, would it be useful and/or interesting to a visitor?”

If yes, your page is safe. If not, it would be marked as spam by a rater.

To keep your affiliate sites safe:

Create every single page for the visitor.

Give the visitor a useful service.

For Example

Review something, then provide an affiliate link. That is fine.

Do surveys on the site and provide the survey results, and your affiliate links are probably fine.

Create a page that compares prices from different sources and your page is fine.

Create a page that reviews different merchants, and helps your visitor make the correct buying decision and you are fine.

Create unique, relevant and interesting/entertaining content on your site, and the affiliate links will be fine.

Also, don’t use any technique that is only there for the search engine spider.

For your affiliate site to be safe, create a site that provides “a service” to your visitors.

“The report” says:

“Do not call a page affiliate spam when an affiliation is only incidental to the message and purpose of the website”

and

“Would this site remain a coherent whole if the pages leading to the affiliate were taken away?”

Is this last point an indication that you should have pages without affiliate links on them?

In my opinion, probably 99% of affiliate sites being built today are “thin”, and won’t do well in Google.

If a thin site gets spotted, it gets penalised.

Hurricanes really suck. Even if they do not reach you, they still

threaten your safety net. Florida survived last years attack of Mother

Nature, so we are a little more courageous this year. Not much, but a

little. I would love to meet the person that pissed her off (Mother

Nature). Not only does she get even, but she does it with a vengeance.

That’s like PMS & Menopause all rapped up. So, for all you poor souls

that are in for that ride(PMS & Manopause), and have no clue what it

is all about, think hurricane. It can turn in a second and destroy

you. Oh, and it has many names also, like bitch, nag, crazy, nuts,

annoying, female, insane, messed up, pms’ing, hallucinating, on drugs,

stupid bitch, mentally challenged, and that’s just a few, except they

are not in an alphabetical order like the hurricanes. OK so we are

disorganized. BITE ME! You seriously have to be PMS`ing to be able to

understand (winks). I can only hope that everyone gets as many laughs

as I have so far typing this.

OK, now onto more serious matters in life. Today I received a

question from a guy. Here is what he said:

“Being Dumped” really is one of the worst experiences, short of death

that we, as humans are faced with in our lives. They say that, death

of a loved one is easier to learn to live with, than a break-up ,

“Being Dumped” or rejection.

All of the above, tell us that we are unacceptable to someone. We

immediatley turn it into ourselves and that’s when the self-blame seed

is sown. Through self-blame we begin to feel shame. Shame is so

painful, that no one talks about it or even wants to think about it.

Shame is the least identified emotion we as humans deal with, because

we are ashamed of our shame. Shame, is yet another negative emotion,

that captures and imprisons us in a pit of hell. It pulls us into a

life of silence and inactivity, lying and hiding our true fears. When

we are rejected in any situation, it is a true hit to our self-esteem.

If we are weak in that area, then our fall is going to be very hard.

So there it is, we as humans, live to love and want to be loved. We

are blinded by the romance of the word ~ LOVE~. We are made happy by

continually set ourselves up? We are gambling, and we do not even

know it. Or, is life simply just that, a gamble? The bottom line is,

no one wants to get “DUMPED”, because it is not in our nature to know

how to accept it. How many of you have been, “DUMPED” and just knew

that your life had ended? You just knew that you will never see

anything the same again. Well, you were partly correct there. It is

like any other change in our lives. Things will be different than we

are use to. Your life has definitely not ended. Yes, your partnership

has ended with a person, and maybe it was not expected, but nor are

hurricanes or wars. We deal with it all, we have to. We chose to

survive. Think of it as starting a new life. Newness is positive and

healthy. Look at things differently, and embrace all that newness. Do

not fear it. “BEING DUMPED”, is just another chapter in your book of

life. If you had no chapters, think how dull your book would be. Now,

you can open your self to another chapter, and believe me, there are

many. If you spend the rest of your life wondering all the “WHY`S”,

just think, you have wasted even more of your precious time on

something that has chosen another road. As for the fact that a person

is, full of themselves, that really has nothing to do with the “Why’s”

of “Being Dumped”. Even the most confident people close doors on

relationships. They in fact, have more courage to do so than a person

of less confidence, or being less full of themselves, so to speak. Who

Knows? All we know is that the decision has been made and you as a

person, with intelligence, must turn the page. Getting stuck in that

feeling just makes therapists rich. (wink) Life offers many, many

humps and bumps. We trip and fall, over and over again. The trick is

to get real good at picking yourself up and dusting off the old dirt.

This is life. I told my daughter, when she was struck by her first

cupids arrow, “If you are going to get emotionally involved, be

prepared to get emotionally uninvolved.” It’s life! One very important

thing we must remember; when we are at the bottom and we feel we are

worthless and will never ever TRUST again, it’s is a nothing more than

a human emotion. We know it as doubt. We can over come doubt very

easily. Look in the mirror, and tell yourself, that you are UNIQUE,

and you are going to make happiness your goal. You must risk all the

falls to reach that goal. Letting yourself believe that you are

deserving of another relationship is truly a risk, again another

gamble. But what is life without a little risk? We have the power to

overcome our negative self. We just need to DO IT!!
