The Toughest Trimaran Sail Race?

Filed under: World Of Media — admin @ 6:42 am

It has been said that the Nokia Oops Cup is the toughest sail racing competition in northern Europe. That is propably true and it’s a tough competition measured with international standards also. If you are interested in extreme sailing this is something for you.

Nokia Oops Cup 2006 will be an international match between Norway, Sweden and Finland. Nokia Oops Cup starts in Oslo June 6 and will compete in Gothenburg, Stockholm, Helsinki, Malm, Copenhagen and finally finish in Kiel August 19.

The good thing with this sailing race is that the cup includes both spectator friendly City Races and not only Offshore Races.

The trimarans used in this competition are called the Formula 1 of sailing, as they are some of the fastest sailboats in the world. A trimaran demands experienced and skilled skippers and extraordinary capable crews to sail the 18 meter long and 16 meter wide racing machines.

The top speed of a trimaran can be over 40 knots, and in relatively normal wind conditions, a Nokia Oops Cup trimaran logs between 20 and 35 knots.

And the winner in the international match is the boat, the skipper and the crew that has got the best total result from all the contests.

We say: Good luck!
