Should we be worried about Fake Degree Certificates?

Filed under: Education + Schooling — admin @ 9:18 am

Educators are increasingly worried about fake degree certificates from diploma mills, but also fake documents.

With modern technology forging a degree certificate is particularly easy, and, due to the prevalence of the Internet, ordering one is a very simple process. This comes at a time when many Universities are accepting record numbers of foreign students.

Many foreign students mistakenly believe that one they pay their fees, they are guaranteed a degree certificate at the end of their course, regardless of whether they pass!

Until now, many did not see the issue of fake degree’s as much of a threat to a Universities reputation. The reason being that employers regularly checked a potential employers qualifications, so, the certificates were pretty well worthless.

However, now courses are being taken remotely, for use in other countries the problem is very different. Foreign employers have been found less likely to check back with a Universtity to check a students records.

This means that there is now a growing market for fake certificates in these countries. The more these certificates are used successfully, the less these employers will trust a genuine certificate.

So, in foreign markets, the problem of fake certificates does indeed have the potential to damage a Universites reputation.
