Should we be worried about Fake Degree Certificates?

Filed under: Education + Schooling — admin @ 9:18 am

Educators are increasingly worried about fake degree certificates from diploma mills, but also fake documents.

With modern technology forging a degree certificate is particularly easy, and, due to the prevalence of the Internet, ordering one is a very simple process. This comes at a time when many Universities are accepting record numbers of foreign students.

Many foreign students mistakenly believe that one they pay their fees, they are guaranteed a degree certificate at the end of their course, regardless of whether they pass!

Until now, many did not see the issue of fake degree’s as much of a threat to a Universities reputation. The reason being that employers regularly checked a potential employers qualifications, so, the certificates were pretty well worthless.

However, now courses are being taken remotely, for use in other countries the problem is very different. Foreign employers have been found less likely to check back with a Universtity to check a students records.

This means that there is now a growing market for fake certificates in these countries. The more these certificates are used successfully, the less these employers will trust a genuine certificate.

So, in foreign markets, the problem of fake certificates does indeed have the potential to damage a Universites reputation.

Five Lazy Ways To Market Your Business

Filed under: Marketing — admin @ 9:40 am

There’s a store in the middle of our town that’s been, in quick succession: a soft furnishings retailer, a record and CD store, a lighting shop, a pet store, and yet another soft furnishings store. It’s currently a coffee shop.

I think the store’s finally settled into its niche. Each time I pass it people are lined up to buy coffee and cake, so all appears well.

Why didn’t the previous tenants make a success of the store? Probably because the easiest way to go broke is to sell something that no one wants. Not enough people in our area wanted to buy soft furnishings and pets.

That’s the first rule of marketing. Find out what people want to buy. If you’ve got something that people want to buy, marketing is a snap — you can be as lazy about marketing as you like, you’ll still be a success.

Is lazy marketing for you? Your success may take a little longer if you choose to go the totally lazy marketing route. Sometimes you don’t have a choice; you may have a fulltime job and want to start your own business. That’s the message of lazy marketing: it’s the scenic route to success. Enjoy the view.

Here are five lazy ways to market your business.

=> 1. Get a Web site

This is the ultimate lazy way. Put up a Web site, or get someone to do it for you. Then forget about it. You won’t hear much for around six months, but once you get listed on the search engines, you’ll start getting business.

You can help the process along, by promoting your site, and by updating it regularly, but once it’s up, and you’re listed on the search engines, you can be as lazy as you like.

=> 2. Make three phone calls a day

How long does it take to make three phone calls? You could probably make them in ten minutes.

Who will you call? Potential clients, suppliers, people who are in the same business you’re in — it doesn’t matter who you call. The idea is that you’re shaking the trees. Once you start communicating, you’ll move your business along.

In any one work week, that’s a total of 15 marketing-related calls. I don’t care who you are or what you do, but if you make 15 marketing-related calls a week for a few months you’re going to kick your business along.

To avoid getting trapped in voice-mail hell, you can use the ultra-lazy person’s alternative - email. However, do make your messages professional. That is, send an email message that’s just like a snail mail message, with all your contact details. Be polite and courteous, and include your full name, your business name, and your complete address, as well as your phone and fax number.

=> 3. Contact one client a day

Call, email or fax one client a day. You’re not touting for business, you’re just touching base. This person has done you the kindness of doing business with you in the past. Call and find how he or she is.

If you’re a writer, this means send out one letter, query or proposal a day, every week day to your previous clients: that is, editors who’ve bought from you in the past.

If you’re just starting out as a writer, then send one query a day to a market you’d like to sell to.

=> 4. Give something away

“Free” is an incentive. And it works. What can you give people to remind them that you’re still in business, and that you’re good at what you do?

Give away something that’s useful, whether it’s a pen, a T shirt, a bookmark — or an hour of your time to mentor a beginner.

Be creative with your freebies!

=> 5. Do what you enjoy

This is the ultimate lazy way to work, as well as to market. If you love what you do, it’s not work.

Make a list of marketing-related activities that are fun for you. Again, be creative about this. No one is holding a gun to your head and saying: “THIS is the way you market.” There are hundreds of marketing activities you could engage in. It’s your business, so find a way that’s fun.

For example, I love to write. So writing articles to promote my business is not a chore, it’s fun.

Maybe you like to interact with others. So why not start a business breakfast club in your area? Or an online club?

Once you’ve worked out what you love to do, you’ll be able to find marketing activities that relate directly to that, and you’ll have another great lazy way to market your business.

There you have it. Five lazy ways to market your business. Take the scenic route to success today!

Hackensack, New Jersey: 300 Years of Modern History

Filed under: Living With Travel — admin @ 11:12 pm

The county seat for Bergen County, New Jersey is the small, bustling city of Hackensack. Nearly 43,000 people call the 4.6 square mile city their home and, in addition to being a seat of government, it is also an important retailing and business center.

The region of New Jersey that Hackensack occupies today was long the home of the Lenni Lenape native peoples. The Achkinheshcky or Hackensack tribe populated the area and coexisted peacefully with Dutch settlers who arrived in 1639 and established a trading post there. By 1688, the area came under the control of the British who established the town of New Barbadoes. At one point during the Revolutionary War, General Washington had his headquarters in Hackensack and the region was at times the epicenter between battling British and American forces. The name Hackensack meaning — mouth of water — was not officially chartered until 1921.

In addition to government institutions the city has several interesting places to visit:

Main Street. If you like downtown shopping, then Hackensack is for you. More than 300 retail and commercial establishments are located within the city’s Special Improvement District {SID}, a designation given to promote and maintain the retail district. The district is also home to one of the few free standing Sears stores in the nation.

North Jersey Media Group. Bergen County’s largest newspaper, The Record, calls Hackensack its home. The North Jersey Media Group {NJMG} publishes two daily newspapers; 41 local newspapers; a magazine, The Best of Bergen; and operates several important web sites. Scheduled tours of their printing facility are available to groups.

New Jersey Naval Museum. Home to the USS Ling 297, a BALAO class submarine, and several smaller water vessels and artifacts. The museum is open select weekdays for group tours.

Other points of interest within the city include the Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack River County Park, the Church on the Green, and the County of Bergen courthouse.

Located less than ten miles west of New York City, Hackensack is easily accessible to the city; Newark and Teterboro Airports; the Meadowlands sports complex; Newark and Jersey City; and is within a day’s drive of the Jersey Shore, High Point State Park, and many other local attractions.

Attract Woman Tips - What was the Most Outrageous Thing You Did to Meet a Woman?

It starts out as an ordinary day. Then it happens. You lay eyes on a woman who is mysterious, erotic, sultry, a rare beauty. What can you do to get her attention? Your standard pickup line doesn’t have a chance to attract a woman and meet a woman of your dreams. You are going to have to turn it up a notch. It’s time to think fast, before this fish swims away. You have only moments before your window of opportunity closes forever. Then it comes to you, the most perfect idea to make this woman fall for you. You surely are a genius to be able to think so fast on your feet. It’s just unbelievable how expertly your mind works in times of pressure. How do women resist you at all, with your lady killer instincts. But enough already. You can do the self adoration thing later. Now you need to focus and put your plan into action. So tell me, what WAS the most outrageous thing you did to meet a woman?

Finding French to Attract Woman

You approach her on the street. Looking confused and needy, you use your best French accent and say “Bonjour ma belle, ou est la boulangerie, aahh coafee showppe s’il vous plait”. (hello beautiful, where is the bakery/coffee shop please”). After a few more “merci”s and “excusez moi”s later, she is walking you to the nearest Starbucks.

Ogling at Office to Attract Woman

You have been secretly attracted to a co-worker. You hear that today is her birthday. As you pass her in the hall, you say “Happy Birthday”, gently press her up against the wall, kiss her on the mouth, and keep walking.

Goin Broke for the Beauty to Attract Woman

You find yourself alone in the elevator with a bombshell. You pull out your checkbook, and write a check for a million dollars made out to “the most beautiful woman in the world”. In the “notes/reason” line, you write “for one smile” and hand it to her.

Chocolate and Charming to Attract Woman

You jump on the treadmill next to her. You place a chocolate kiss on the ledge of her treadmill. You look at her seriously and say “If you race me and win, a kiss is yours.”

Fearful Flyer to Attract Woman

After boarding the plane, you see a beautiful woman reading a magazine in her seat. You tap the gentleman sitting next to her, and say softly to him, “Excuse me, but my wife is extremely fearful of flying, would you mind switching seats with me so that we can be seated next to each other.” She overhears your comment, but is confused as to who you are talking about. Before she realizes that you were referring to her, you’re safely tucked in your seat next to her with safety belt in place.

Don Juan Dancer to Attract Woman

You see her in the grocery store. You pluck the flower out of the flower bouquet in your cart, stick it between your teeth, grab her by the hand and waist, and start doing the tango.

Singing for a Smile to Attract Woman

You are in the bookstore, you grab her hand and break out into song with “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton.

Checking The Status of Your Tax Refund Online

Filed under: Money + Finance — admin @ 7:02 pm

More than a few people are happy to learn they are due a tax refund after filling out their tax returns. If you are one of these people, here is how to check the status of your refund online.

Checking The Status of Your Tax Refund Online

Before getting into checking your refund status, I feel obligated to mention a few things about tax refunds. One involves the nature of refund and the other involves Internet scams.

If you are getting a sizeable refund, you need to give some thought to how much money you are deducting from paychecks or paying in quarterly taxes. While a tax refund may sound like a good thing, it really is not. If you overpay your taxes during the year, you are giving the government a free loan. The IRS does not pay interest on any excessive tax payments, so you are really taking it in the pants by not modifying your tax payments.

The second issue to keep in mind is you can ONLY check the status of your tax refund online by going to the IRS web site. With phishing scams starting to focus on tax issues, you may receive emails regarding any and all facets of tax refunds. These emails are scams! The IRS does not send you emails, and surely doesn’t alert you to the fact you are due a refund. If you want to check on your refund, go to the IRS web site and nowhere else. Do not turn a good thing like a tax refund into a bad thing like identity theft.

To check the status of your tax refund, go to the IRS web site by searching for it in a search engine. Next, click the Where’s My Refund link on the home page. Follow the simple steps, click enter and the status will be shown. FYI, you will need a copy of your tax return.

Once you have completed the above, the IRS software will give you a couple of responses. Summarized, they include the fact the return has been received, but not yet processed; the tax refund has been mailed or wired to your bank account on a particular date; or notice the IRS was unable to deliver the refund to you because of some mailing problem. The IRS will also let you know if the refund is delayed because it has issues with your tax return.

Once again, you may want to tweak your tax payments if you are due a sizeable refund. There is little reason to give the government a free loan during the year. They already take too much of your money.

Dalymount Park: Home of Irish Soccer

Filed under: Living With Travel — admin @ 7:22 am

Dalymount Park, situated in Phisboro just west of Dublin City Center, is home to Bohemians FC today with a capacity of just over 12,000 people. The stadium was built in 1901 and the first game ever held there took place in September 1901 between Bohemians and Shelbourne. Known affectionately by the Irish soccer fans as simply Dalyer, the days are now numbered for this
historic stadium.

Today the stadium is still being used on a regular basis as the home of Bohemians. Historically Dalymount Park was the home of Irish Soccer with major home international matches being played there until the 1984 when Ireland played Italy. An amazing 40,000 people turned up to see the game. Only 20,000 people were allowed in that night to see the game. The last time Dalymount was used for a senior international match of any description was in 1990 when Ireland played Morocco.

Unfortunately from the 1940s until recent times, no development had taken place at the stadium and the stadium with its old wooden stands fell into dilapidation. In more recent times, the main stand has been replaced with a modern stand, but the rest of the stadium is a throw back to history.

In recent times it has become inevitable that Bohemians were going to leave Dalymount as the price or land in Dublin shot up. A recent development has been the sale of the old stadium for e50m which will also include the building of a 10,000 all seated stadium in the Castleknock area of Dublin. 105 years of sporting history comes to an end.

High Tech Gamblers and Cheating in Casinos, Casinos are Fighting Back

Filed under: Gambling Fortunes — admin @ 7:02 pm

In Las Vegas many techie types are winning big, too big for the Corporate Casinos who expect to win. The house has to win and the margins are set in advance. High Tech Gamblers and Cheating in Casinos and of course the Casinos are fighting back. Of course you knew they would

http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994542

Why well because people are cheating: MIT and micro-sensors making progress, Virtual Keyboards, smart dust:

http://robotics.eecs.berkeley.edu/~pister/SmartDust/

Student have been using them under their finger nails to count cards in the CT Indian casinos and the sensors are wired to their watches, displaying the results, pretend I did not tell you that. I refuse to reveal sources. Each time certain cards are played they tap out with their fingers on the table, using certain fingers for certain numbers such as 1’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10. A combination allows the addition to the nearest number. The other hand is used for Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces. Very clever, just imagine how rich Gates would be if he had that system to augment his card counting abilities in his room at Harvard?

Moral of the Story? Never play cards with a Micro-Sensor Research Student at MIT and as per this article Berkeley either. Gray Davis signed into legislation a bill, which allows Indian Casinos in CA to grow and have more slots. So Berkeley students will not have to go up to Reno to score on the casinos there. Meanwhile as the card counting games continue, Pit Bosses are hiring similar students to put sensors on the table to catch people tapping and more remote hidden video cameras to catch cheaters. You cannot regulate morality can you. Not with the casinos, with the public out to make fast buck, not with the politicians, not with judges or lawyers.

So why are we trying to do this with our businessmen who provide jobs? Seems as if the problem starts in the first grade when Junior tries to steal a candy bar, better watch moms and catch them when they are young and explain integrity.

Old games new rules.

Apple Ipod Nano - Why Bother?

Filed under: Sounds + Music — admin @ 1:21 am

The Apple Ipod Nano? Not another article about it! Well, fasten your seatbelt, because I’m going to take you on a nice literary roller coaster ride.

Huh? What does a jaunty verbal exposition have to do with the most popular personal electronic in the history of man? Well, before you go to dictionary.com and try to decipher the last sentence, I submit to you the following proposition. Sit tight, relax, and keep your ears peeled for some insightful remarks.

So let’s get started. It all started when I was a little boy…or was I already grown up? Hmm. Now that I think about it, I think I was already in college at that time. Do you remember those times? Were you even born yet, back in the 90’s? If you weren’t even born yet, please click “close” on this browser window, shut down Windows (or Linux if you’re geek-cool), and proceed to expunge the plug of your little computer from the electrical outlet. Because you won’t even begin to understand what the heck I’m about to tell you.

You see, music was completely free way back in pre-historic times (a.k.a. the 90’s). You could turn your computer on (all 10mb of RAM), go to an unmentionable site (with the initials of Napster) and get all the illegally shared music you can swallow in one day, like a fish stuffed silly to the gills with deep fried cheese jalapenoes. By the way, I just watched a documentary on how these things are made on the Food Network, and all I can say is if you’re still eating them, I wouldn’t bet on you if you were the only horse out the gate.

But back to my story. Or should we go back? Hmm…Umm. I think what you’re really waiting for is some new, juicy news about the delightful gadget known as the Apple Ipod Nano. Well guess what. I’ve got some bad news for you junior. And you are junior to me, even if you’re older than me, because I’m from the Napster era.

And the news is: the apple nano is one sleek piece of Apple gadgetry. If you know of where I can get one for free, drop me a line, eh?

Sam Watkins goes to Free Music Downloads when he needs to fill up his Ipod with good tunes. Sammy also recommends Wholesale Electronics for wholesale mp3 players.
